SHWAYDER BROTHERS - SAMSONITE HISTORY
The Shwayder Brothers was started by trunk repairman turned luggage maker Jesse Shwayder and his five brothers in 1910, Samsonite luggage became one of the most well-known brands of traveling cases in the world.

Jesse knew the luggage business from the ground up thanks to his trunk repair business. As he fixed pieces for clients, he got to see first-hand what popular trunks of the day were made of, how they were constructed, and how wear and tear affected them in the form of strength and weakness. In response, Jesse started making his own trunks with improvements in design from notes he had taken while doing repair jobs. Jesse's handmade trunks turned out to be a vast improvement of what was currently available on the market. Quickly gaining a reputation for building high-quality trunks, Jesse went into business with his brothers to create Samsonite Luggage. By the mid-1920s they were selling over a million pieces of high-quality travel cases a year.

By the time this was set was made in the 1950s, Shwayder Bros was the largest producer of luggage in the world. Jesse credited his success with treating people and luggage the way he wanted to be treated. He offered strong, well-made travel cases for a fair price and a pledge that they would withstand decades of travel and adventure.
