HISTORY
The original Hellerware was designed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli and was first manufactured in Italy. The design won the 1964 Compasso d'Oro, Italy's design award. The pieces were simple in style, with rims designed for stacking and coffee cups with handles that sprouted from the rim.

The original manufacturer went out of business, so Alan Heller sought out Vignelli to revive the design in America. Heller's first product was the stacking dishware set.

The Hellerware became a sensation, known for its affordability, durability, and rainbow colors. It was seen as a "design classic" and a symbol of the 1970s and 1980s.

Massimo Vignelli was an Italian designer and graphic purist who also created the New York City subway map and the Bloomingdale's logo.

Alan Heller founded Heller, Inc. in 1971. Heller was a plastics manufacturer who collaborated with legendary designers to create high-quality modern furniture for everyday families.

A set of Hellerware is part of the permanent design collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
